Devoted parents are always looking for ways to provide their babies with a healthy diet. As they add fruits and vegetables to broaden the number of nutrients their baby is getting, they forget that many of these so called healthy foods were grown using chemicals and additives that are unnatural and harmful to a developing mind and body.
The Danger of Pesticides and Your Baby
Your typical large farm is using a number of pesticides and herbicides on their crops. These are primarily used to prevent insects and other vegetation from destroying fields of fruits and vegetables. The trouble is, most of these chemicals have not yet been tested on a long term basis. Plus, some foods will absorb these chemicals and pass them on to the consumer unknowingly.
When tested, babies and children who are eating non-organic foods are found to have levels of pesticides in their systems. While the full effect that this can have on development is still unclear, some expert’s opinion that this exposure can make babies more vulnerable to a variety of issues with their health, including the development of the brain. Since babies are at a crucial point in their development it is best to remove this threat by introducing a diet consisting entirely of organic food products.
Your Baby and Antibiotics and Hormones
Once you begin to introduce meat into your baby’s diet there are new unnatural elements being infused into the food for a parent to worry about. Animals that are being raised on non-organic farms are being treated with antibiotics and hormones. Not only will traces of these products be found in the meat, there is also evidence to support that they are passed into the animal by-products. This includes many common products parents feed their growing babies, such as milk, eggs and cheese.
When shopping for food for your baby, don’t be confused by labels that read all natural or hormone free. The USDA has developed a special seal that differentiates an organic product from one which claims to be natural. In order for a food to obtain such a seal it must meat the high standards set out by the US government. This means that the food item has never been exposed to synthetic pesticides, sewage sludge, ionizing radiation or bioengineering. Only a food product labeled 100% organic is completely free of all of these elements.
When you realize what organic means, as defined by the Environmental Protection Agency, you start to get a better idea of what is happening with non-organic foods and why you wouldn’t want your precious baby exposed to them.
Organic food has benefit for people of all ages, but with babies it is the most obvious. An average newborn already has 200 carcinogens and toxins in their tiny body. By the time he or she is two, they will have passed the lethal threshold for these toxins. You can actually reverse this if you give your baby a diet made up entirely of organic food. This can decrease the amount of cancer causing toxins to about a sixth of what a typical toddler will have. This decrease in carcinogens will of course protect your baby’s health both now and in the future.
Thanks to public awareness on the topic, organic food is becoming increasingly available to everyone. Without having to limit your baby’s diet, you can now protect their developing minds and bodies by introducing foods that are 100% free from harmful elements.
